Caleb Stacey is a powerful lineman. Stating that he is in the Wisconsin mold is not a left-field comment. Young Stacey plays for Cincinnati Oak Hills in the tough, football rich Cincinnati, Ohio area.

March is not yet completed and Stacey already has double digit offers with many more programs in the process of recruiting him and expressing sincere interest. So, Michigan jumped directly in the middle of the recruiting mixer and a recent commitment to Michigan was the result.

Caleb’s stock took a big rise, more than likely the result of some very good film performance from his junior year that caught the attention of many college coaches. It appears his high school coach, Curry Commins, has done a fine job of getting the word out on a recruit that was once a little under the radar.

Beware star-gazers, many services have not fully evaluated or even evaluated at all any but the top crust, well known prospects. Also, keep in mind offensive linemen are very difficult to project years in advance of when they are 23 year old seniors. This is why programs recruit as many big uglies as possible.

What has caught the eye of coaches to extend offers soon after the start of the 2012 recruiting season? Read on below, but a quick summary would include smarts, a fierce work ethic, and the ability to move people off the line of scrimmage. The latter trait is now a must in the Michigan linemen stable.

Overview:

Caleb is a big, physical offensive line prospect who plays left tackle in high school, but we feel he is destined to play offensive guard at Michigan. He received All-Conference honors and second team Cincinnati area as a junior. Caleb is a good student who reportedly has a 3.2 GPA.

Strengths:

Caleb shows very good athletic ability for a player his size. He gets off the ball quickly and shows the ability to pull and trap. Expanding the above, Caleb moves his feet very well for a player his size. Caleb is very strong at the point of attack and on film he shows the ability to dominate in the running game. He is a player who plays with good effort and lots of passion.

Needs work:

Caleb needs to be more consistent with his pad level. Also he will need to work on playing with his knees bent. Pass protection will also have to improve.

Red-shirt or play his Freshman Year?

Yes, again like almost all offensive linemen in a program with good talent and depth.

Caleb reminds the GBMWolverine Staff of – Michigan offensive linemen who played guard Jonathon Goodwin.
