Overview:

Tamani is a very good overall athlete, with the skills to play corner, wide receiver, or help out on special teams (likely his first year of action is the call here).

On most sites he is mentioned foremost as a defensive back, but has had success as a wide-out.

He attends Pickerington Central High School coached by Jay Sharrett.

Central is a top program in the Central Ohio area and finished 12-1 last year, losing a close game to perennial power Hilliard Davidson.

Many fine college players of late have come through this program.

There is no verification currently available, but indications are that Tamani is a strong student.

It has been reported he has already qualified.

Strengths:

Tamani shows excellent coverage skills, including very good hips, anticipation, and change of direction.

He has a smooth and fluid back pedal with little wasted movement.

His 35-inch vertical shows good explosion, and he moves his feet very well and has good, but not elite, overall speed.

Needs work:

Tamani has average height and does not have a large frame that could easily add plenty of weight.

He will clearly need to get much bigger and stronger.

Tamani is just an adequate tackler and is not as physical as he could be.

Adding strength and weight will be a priority and should help.

His bench and squat totals are impressive and believe it or not his measurable are similar to Blake Countess.

Final Thoughts:

We welcome Tamani Carter to Michigan and hope he has a successful career on and off the football field as a student-athlete at the University of Michigan. Go Blue!

Red-shirt or play his Freshman Year?

GBMWolverine believes he will likely red-shirt his first year. A year would definitely help, but again as we say with all these young backs, with UM’s secondary problems and lack of overall depth, he might be forced to play early. We believe at least one will see meaningful playing time while the others might either red-shirt or be used only on special teams.

Tamani Carter reminds the GBMWolverine Staff of — 2010 Michigan Football Player — Courtney Avery — who plays Corner-back.
