Michigan football has been making a push from some lower-rated three-star prospects and that continued with an offer to pass rusher Patrick Hisatake.

When it comes to evaluating recruits, it can be a mixed bag and over the last week or so, Michigan football has really started to trust some of its evaluations, as the Wolverines have offered some lower-ranked three-star recruits.

One of those offers went to three-star defensive end Dominik Guidice. He committed the same day. A pair of three-star recruits from the state of Ohio, who are even registered in the 247 sports composite rankings, have also been gaining steam with Michigan, along with another three-star pass rusher who received an offer this weekend.

That player is three-star athlete Patrick Hisatake out of Portland, Oregon. He posted on Twitter Saturday that Michigan football and specifically, defensive line coach Shaun Nua extended him an offer.

Hisatake is listed at 6-foot-5, 240 pounds and he is ranked as No. 101 athlete in the 2021 class, however, he isn’t ranked in the 247 composite rankings, which means he isn’t ranked according to some of the other recruiting sites.

But Hisatake has been garnering more interest and when you watch what he can do, it’s easy to see why. For a big guy, he’s a solid athlete and he’s explosive off the edge. He shows natural bend and pass-rush ability, as well as a feel for getting to the quarterback.

That wasn’t the only impressive part about his film though. Despite his length, he showed an ability to drop back in coverage and even broke up a pass. That shows that he could possibly fit in a stand-up role, sort of like what Josh Uche did last season, although you wouldn’t want him in coverage all the time.

For his part, Hisatake was very excited about the offer from Nua. The defensive line coach’s former school Arizona State may be the top competition, along with others such as UCLA, Kansas, Maryland and Utah, however, after the offer, he told The Michigan Insider that the Wolverines were in this top three ($):

"“(Michigan is in) my top 3 for sure. I grew up watching Michigan football with my dad, so to have an opportunity to play for them is a dream. They have a great football program and the Big Ten is a competitive conference to be in.”"

The fifth-ranked player in the state of Oregon, he said he hoped to visit Ann Arbor and if he joined, he would be similar to Guidice, which could give Nua another lengthy, athletic pass rusher to mold.
