Michigan Football Recruiting: Shaun Crawford — 2015 Commit — Profile

GBMWolverine Readers: Here is an overview of recent verbal commitment Shaun Crawford.

Shaun Crawford committed to Michigan on August 23, 2013 and became the third commit for the 2015 recruiting class. He, like many recent Michigan recruits is a Michigan fan. His program, Lakewood St. Edward, is a longtime Ohio powerhouse currently has Kyle Kalis on the Michigan roster.

He is an excellent athlete, but a small athlete, the size listed above is probably generous. He plays tough football and a good description is a Jeremy Gallon on defense with more raw athletic ability. Shaun has been described as a baller, much like Gallon.

Note: Stars do matter, but are not absolute in predicting success within a football program. So, with that in mind the GBMWolverine Staff has cleverly come up with a new system of ranking. We are using footballs instead of stars, how can one argue against a system that clever? Below are the interpretations of football power predicted way too boldly long before it matters. In other words, we will give informed opinion with the crystal ball and let the players determine what will happen through years of hard work.

Criteria: Raw talent, athleticism, position of need, intangibles.

GBMWolverine Rankings: .

10 footballs: Instant impact player.
9 footballs: Three or four-year starter at a high level.
8 footballs: A starter with all league potential.
7 footballs: A meaningful starter at some time during a career.
6 footballs: A spot starter or special teams player.
5 footballs: Not in the two deep after a two years.
4 footballs: Never made it.
1-3 footballs: See the above.

Side Note:

Remember just as we did during the season with grading positions or groups we are very tough graders and expect a lot out of those positions or players so this is no different here.

Overview:

Shaun is another highly skilled athlete from Lakewood St Edward’s . Shaun played special teams as a sophomore and started in the secondary in 2013. St. Edward made the Division 1 State semi- finals this past year. Shaun is also a top level track athlete, finishing 2nd in the 100m and 5th in the 200m as a sophomore. He has a 3.6 grade point average.

Strengths:

Do not fooled by his size, this kid will knock your head off. He is extremely fast and aggressive. Shaun is ideal for the corner position. He always plays at full speed and is fearless. He moves his feet well and shows excellent change of direction. Though he needs some work, he possesses nearly perfect tackling technique.

Concerns/Needs Work:

At the college level, Shaun will need to get bigger and stronger to handle larger college receivers. He has a nasty habit of over committing and getting beat deep. With his size that is a major no-no.

Red-shirt or play his Freshman Year?

GBMWolverine would not be surprised if Shaun plays early his first year.

Shaun Crawford reminds the GBMWolverine Staff of — Former Ohio State Football Player — Antoine Winfield — who played Cornerback.
