Will Howard says 'I'll go for three if I can' before choking against Michigan football
When you talk the talk, you better be able to walk the walk.
That's a lesson that Ohio State quarterback Will Howard is going to have to learn. The entire program really after Michigan football conquered the Buckeyes and embarrassed Ryan Day in Columbus again thanks to a 13-10 win over the best team ever built according to Urban Meyer.
Howard was supposed to be part of that. He was good against a mostly cupcake schedule this year, leading the Big Ten or in the top two in a bunch of key passing categories. But when "The Game" rolled around, he looked every bit like the Kansas State transfer he is -- who was run off because he wasn't going to be their preferred starter this season anyway.
Will Howard references Woody Hayes then chokes
In the most important game of his life, Howard was emasculated by Makari Paige. He did run around on the sideline, then finished the game with two interceptions, and just 175 yards in a total choke job.
What makes that even more hilarious is the fact that during the pre-game walk to the stadium, Howard thought it would be cute to tell Ohio State fans, "I'll go for three if I can" referencing the famous comment by Woody Hayes when he went for two during a blowout win over Michigan.
A reporter asked him why he went for two. Hayes responded "because I couldn't go for three."
After Howard's second interception, he didn't get his team across midfield again. On the Buckeyes last two drives, they didn't manage a single first down. Ohio State actually only had three first downs in the second half and their last one came with 6:36 left in the third quarter.
It was good thing the refs ignored a blatant offensive pass interference or Ohio State would have been held to single digits. (No wonder they started a fight after another home loss).
And like Michigan football fans said all along, Will Howard isn't worth the money and his epic choke on Saturday in "The Game" was a reminder that you can take a quarterback out of the Big 12, but you can't take the Big 12 out of a quarterback.
