Transfer portal rankings can be subjective. Rankings in general are subjective, and they aren't end all be all predictor for future success. But they are still interesting and so far, the rankings really like the two new additions from the transfer portal for Michigan basketball.
247 Sports has some of the best rankings out there for the transfer portal, and their release was highly anticipated. They came out on Wednesday, one day after the second transfer portal commitment of this cycle for Michigan basketball.
Michigan basketball transfer portal commitments each ranked in top 50
The Wolverines landed Morez Johnson, the former Illinois forward/center, on Tuesday, one day after landing former five-star recruit and North Carolina point guard Elliot Cadeau. Johnson is the higher-ranked addition of the two, coming in at No. 18 in the transfer portal rankings from 247 Sports. Here's the excerpt about Morez Johnson that was included:
"Morez Johnson is utterly impossible to keep off the glass. The 6-foot-9, 255-pound forward is one of the elite rebounders in this transfer portal haul who plays with relentless effort and generates extra possessions left and right. Johnson has very good hands and looks every bit the part of a double-double machine for the years to come. He has all the athleticism and power to be a havoc-wrecking defender who can play multiple coverages."
247 Sports ranked Elliot Cadeau 40th in the transfer portal rankings. They said he was "topsy turvy" at North Carolina. However, the article says, "There's a difference-making initiator point guard in there somewhere. It's up to Michigan coach Dusty May to try and find it."
Unfortunately, Tre Donaldson entered the transfer portal, joining Sam Walters, Justin Pippen, and Jace Howard, who will need a waiver to play. The Wolverines need another guard with Tre gone, but are also in the mix for the No. 1 overall prospect, Yaxel Lendeborg. The Wolverines are among the finalists, and there seems to be a realistic shot of landing him, too.
If there was an ideal replacement for Danny Wolf in the transfer portal, he's it. He might also play in the NBA next season, but stay tuned. The fireworks are far from over.
