Michigan football has been active in the transfer portal but still has some positions that it needs to address.

Michigan football has been active in the transfer portal with eight commitments. The latest was from Justice Haynes, the former five-star running back from Alabama.

The Wolverines have landed a couple of former five-star recruits from Alabama. Hopefully, those players will reach their potential with the Wolverines. That's especially true of Haynes who averaged 5.9 yards per rushing attempt with Alabama during his two seasons. He also had 13 games with at least one run of 11 yards or more.

In short, Haynes feels like a perfect fit for Michigan football. He's a guy who needed more opportunities and he'll get them in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines have also landed their bridge quarterback, an offensive lineman, two defensive backs, and a wide receiver.

However, there is still work to do. It feels like another wide receiver is needed and Michigan football is working to make that happen. However, wideout probably isn't the biggest need.

Michigan football could use another offensive tackle and they are trying to land one in former Washington State starter Fa'alili Fa'amoe. The 6-foot-5 right tackle is down to Nebraska and Michigan according to reports and is the No. 2 offensive tackle in the portal (21st overall).

Offensive line is important. The dropoff at that position was one of the biggest reasons Michigan football dropped to 7-5 this past season. People want to talk about the quarterback play, which was an issue, but the offensive line was inconsistent and took a step back.

Another year of development could make guys like Evan Link better, but a proven offensive tackle and a proven interior player would be welcomed.

The Wolverines also need a cornerback to step in for Will Johnson. it will be imposssible to replace Will Johnson. But the Wolverines need to find a reliable starter somewhere in the transfer portal. Arizona's Emmanuel Karnley, a 6-foot-3 rising sophomore, is one name in the mix.

Michigan might not land all of its top targets at those positions, but the Wolverines need a defensive tackle, at least if Kenneth Grant doesn't return, an offensive tackle, and a cornerback.

Those are the three biggest needs. Some of them could be filled soon, but as far as defensive tackle, it might be Kenneth Grant or bust.
