Watch: Michigan football scores twice in 27 seconds against Michigan State
Michigan football has changed starting quarterbacks a few different times this season. The Wolverines opened the 2024 season with Davis Warren as the starting quarterback.
Warren made it through the first three games. Alex Orji started the fourth game, fifth, and sixth games, while Jack Tuttle started the seventh.
After two straight losses -- one with Orji starting and one with Tuttle starting -- Michigan football went back to Davis Warren. There was hope that he would be able to ignite the passing game. Warren was the most effective passer and has been this season but he had a major problem with interceptions.
That hasn't been an issue against Michigan State. Yet, when the Wolverines took over the ball late in the first half, Michigan football had just 39 yards of total offense.
Yet, Davis Warren, who had only attempted a few passes, engineered a 62-yard touchdown drive. It started with a third-and-six conversion to Semaj Morgan. Sometimes, it just takes a first down to get a spark and that's what happened. Warren started throwing and stopped thinking.
Michigan had just two first downs before that drive. The Wolverines had five on that drive and most of them came by Warren throwing the football. Eventually, Michigan football got in the red zone, and finally, on a second-and-nine at the 10, Warren found Colston Loveland for a touchdown.
Hopefully, that breaks open the dam. It was only the second touchdown drive in the last four quarters for the Wolverines who were shutout last week in the second half.
Then, after scoring a touchdown with 29 seconds left, Michigan football scored 27 seconds later thanks to a strip sack by Josaiah Stewart and a Davis Warren pass to Donovan Edwards.
The Wolverines now lead 9-7 and for the first time in weeks, there is some positive momentum on offense. Warren also looks comfortable after completing 10-of-11 passes for 79 yards.
