Michigan was favored by 27.5 points heading into its matchup against Western Michigan and needed a Hail Mary to win it when a second was put back on the clock. Then the fans stormed the field, and let's face it, they definitely should not have.
Steve Sarkisian has no ties to Michigan this season. Michigan and Texas won't see each other this season and won't until potentially next season, unless the two meet in the CFP. So, why is he commenting on Michigan's Week 1 performance?
Well, to be fair, everyone is commenting on Michigan's Week 1 performance. When a second is added to the game and then you end up winning it, even though the other team clearly outplayed you, people tend to talk a lot about it. Michigan had no business beating Western Michigan, but one final second and a miraculous Hail Mary has Michigan 1-0 heading into Week 2 and the center of every conversation.
So, Sarksian commenting on Michigan's shocking Week 1 doesn't seem as crazy as it should be when they don't even play each other this season. Not only did he comment on the performance, but also on what took place after the win, when the fans stormed the field.
"I still don’t understand or get the final ruling of it all. Unfortunate for Western Michigan to play their tails off the way they did and to lose like that. I’ve lost a game like that before on a Hail Mary, and that definitely sucks," Sark said. "My biggest thing is that I was shocked they stormed the field. That was probably a surprise."

Fans storming the field after Western Michigan win really isn't the best look for the Wolverines
Field storming is already a hot topic at times, with some believing it should never happen, and others saying it is a must in the right circumstances. For Michigan's win over Western Michigan, the fans definitely should not have stormed the field.
I get it; it was a crazy ending, especially when it appeared that they wouldn't walk away with the win. However, it shouldn't have taken that kind of ending for Michigan to win that game. Plus, storming the field after winning a game by one point when you were 27.5-point favorites at kickoff is honestly more than a little embarrassing.
Sark is not the only person questioning why Michigan fans stormed the field. There are many, including Will Compton, who is the co-host of the podcast "Bussin with the Boys" with Michigan legend Taylor Lewan. Compton went as far as saying it was the worst field storming in college football history.
Now, that might be overdoing it just a little bit, but he isn't wrong in the fact that it wasn't a good look for Michigan, especially when favored to win by so much. Michigan was literally one second away from losing that game, and it's not like the players and coaches were really celebrating that much after that performance.
