Zero seconds were left on the game clock, and Western Michigan had come into the Big House and upset a four-touchdown home favorite on their turf. That's what everyone believed and turned the game off in disgust or walked out of the stadium in disbelief. Officials decided to replay the play and, for some reason, put one second left on the clock, giving Michigan football all the time it needed to create a miracle for the ages.
Thoughts on Michigan's win
Michigan's defense was dependable
When the game was on the line, Jay Hill's unit forced field goals instead of surrendering touchdowns. Once on the opening drive, then immediately after Bryce Underwood's interception before the half, and twice in the waning minutes of the ballgame. Altogether, Broc Lowry was held in check in the passing game, and Western's biggest run of the night was an 11-yard scamper that didn't culminate until the fourth quarter.
Even more impressive is that Michigan football won the contest without creating any turnovers. Jyaire Hill made a highlight-worthy sideline catch that was nullified by a pass interference penalty, and Western nearly turned it over on their last offensive play of the game. Other than that, Troy Bowles had a breakout performance with 12 tackles, and Dom Nichols notched a pair of sacks.

Bryce Underwood's mechanics seem unfixable
5-for-5 is how Underwood started the first drive of the night. Beyond that, his accuracy was below 50% on passes, and he turned the ball over twice. When throwing the ball, he rarely set his feet correctly and was staring down receivers far too often. Fans were calling for his benching, and rightfully so, but one thing is for certain and that is no quarterback on the roster could have made that throw to JJ Buchanan in that moment.
Not all of it was his fault though. The offensive line has to accept some blame too with how they couldn't block for the running backs. Michigan's longest rush of the night was for 15 yards. They practically never had that problem last year. Kudos to Western Michigan who was without their defensive coordinator and best player thanks to Jim Harbaugh.
