Should Michigan basketball be worried about Dusty May leaving for Indiana?

Michigan basketball head coach Dusty May used to be a team manager for Indiana and could be a target in their head coaching search.

Indiana is getting a new head basketball coach and the Hoosiers would be idiots if they didn't at least call Dusty May, the first-year Michigan basketball head coach.

May is an Indiana alum. He was a team manager for Bob Knight and if this opening had been available a year earlier, May might be working his magic in Bloomington instead of Ann Arbor right now.

But Indiana hired Mike Woodson and decided to stick with him. The Hoosiers have been consistent under achievers. They made the NCAA tournament last season but sticking with Woodson, one year before he leaves the program for retirement or whatever, doesn't look like a good move.

Michigan basketball has nearly doubled its win total from last season. It's still crazy to think Ohio State chose Jake Diebler over targeting May. The Wovlerines were fortunate and beat out Louisville, another basketball blue-blood to him.

Dusty May mentioned as an Indiana basketball candidate

Joe Tipton of On3.com included May on a hot board of Indiana basketball coaching candidates. May was under the heading of "somewhat reasonable candidates." It makes sense but I don't see May leaving Michigan basketball after one season.

Earlier this week, he said the Wolverines were going to Indiana, "To win a freaking basketball game and nothing more."

May and Michigan basketball are in the thick of the Big Ten title hunt. The Wolverines trail Purdue by a half-game in the win column. They are also tied with Michigan State with a 9-2 record. After three straight wins by three points or less over Rutgers, Penn State and Oregon, U-M plays at Indiana on Saturday at 1 p.m. EST on CBS.

It's a big-time matchup and a huge game for the Wolverines in the Big Ten title race. Surely, fans will be showing May the love. Yet, it doesn't feel like Michigan baskeball fans need to worry too much.

May seems committed to Michigan. You can never say never in college athletics and money talks -- so maybe Michigan should sweeten the deal for May, especially considering all the success, but as of now, I don't think fans have any reason to worry.
