In a season where the Michigan football program hasn't met expectations, the Wolverines finally exceeded them, for one day, on Saturday.

The Wolverines were a 10-point favorite. They beat Northwestern by 44 points. They ran for 201 yards, threw for 196, and picked up 11 first downs. The Wildcats, who also could have stayed alive for a bowl game with a win, were held to 127 yards and eight first downs.

In the last 10 quarters of football, which includes two games against two top-10 teams, Michigan football has allowed just 536 yards. That's certainly trending in the right direction heading into "The Game."

The entire Michigan football team is. Sherrone Moore answered in the affirmative when asked if his team had momentum on and off the field. He said the only thing that matters is beating Ohio State.

"It's everything," Moore said. "It's the most important thing to us."

Beating Ohio State is all that matters for Michigan football

The Wolverines have clinched a bowl game. They can still have a winning season, even with a loss to the Buckeyes, but now, they get to lay it on the line in a one-game season. This is their College Football Playoff and beating Ohio State would feel like winning the national title again.

The Buckeyes will be a huge favorite. We all know that. The Ohio State defense is legit and if Will Johnson isn't able to go, and even if he is at this point, defending those receivers won't be easy.

But Michigan has the best defensive line in college football and Wink Martindale finally figured out how to use it. We'll see if the offense can do enough to pull the upset or at least keep it interesting, but Michigan football will be a confident team heading into the Horseshoe fresh off a 50-6 win over Northwestern.

That's exactly what you wanted as a Michigan fan and the last thing you wanted as a Buckeye.
