Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore has revealed that Biff Poggi, the former Charlotte head coach, will take over the Wolverines during his two-game suspension, serving as the interim head coach.

This move makes a ton of sense. Poggi serves as the associate head coach for Michigan football, a job he held under Jim Harbaugh as well.

Poggi actually started to hang around the program as an advisor of sorts at the end of the last season, which is when things started to turn around. Poggi was also the head coach of St. Frances, a high school football program in Baltimore that he built into a national power.

Biff Poggi makes sense as Michigan interim head coach

Chip Lindsey was another viable candidate for Moore. The offensive coordinator was formerly a head coach at the Group of Five level, just like Poggi. When Jim Harbaugh needed a replacement, during the important stretch of 2023, he turned to Moore, who was his offensive coordinator.

Wink Martindale was another viable option. However, Poggi always made the most sense. The players love him, and he is Sherrone Moore's right-hand man, just like he was Harbaugh's. It doesn't make sense to add more to the plate of the coordinators, especially when a non-playcaller can take over the role seamlessly, as Poggi can.

Poggi is a great leader. He's an experienced head coach and he'll do just fine guiding Michigan over the next two weeks. The Central Michigan game should be an easy win for the Wolverines. It's the Nebraska game that everyone is worried about.

Now we know who the head coach will be at least.
