Records, surprises could await Michigan Wolverines in NFL draft's first round

The Michigan Wolverines could set their record for first-round picks on Thursday night, plus some huge surprises could be in stoe for the first round of the 2025 NFL draft.

Draft Day has arrived, Michigan football fans. The Wolverines should have a big night as the first round of the NFL's annual selection meeting will be held in Green Bay on Thursday night.

For the Michigan Wolverines, it could be a record-breaking night. Michigan football has never had four players selected in the first round of the NFL draft. However, that could easily happen on Thursday night.

It's far from guaranteed, but Mason Graham, Colston Loveland, Will Johnson, and Kenneth Grant all have a good chance to hear their names called in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft.

Graham has been projected by most to go in the top 10. Some could even see him going in the top five to the Jacksonville Jaguars. I would take him in the top five and not think twice about it.

Graham's stock is fine. Johnson's is free-falling, unfortunately. One mock draft even has Johnson falling out of the first round of the 2025 NFL draft completely.

That would be stunning. Johnson was in the conversation to be the No. 1 overall pick at the start of the 2024 season and he's still arguably the best corner in the draft, despite the injury issues.

Johnson falling out of the first round would be a huge surprise. The 6-foot-2 cornerback wasn't able to work out at the NFL draft combine or the Michigan football pro day. So NFL teams might be worried or there is a smoke screen.

We'll see how it shakes out, but Johnson is a top-10 talent in my eyes. Some NFL team will get a steal if he falls out of the top 20.

It's starting to feel like Loveland will be the second Michigan Wolverine off the board. He dealt with some injury issues this past season, too, but Loveland is in the conversation to be the top tight end.

Grant is viewed as more of a borderline first-round pick. Yet, defensive lineman are extremely valuable. His ceiling is incredibly high, too. He just started scratching the surface. I'd be just as surprised about Grant falling out of the first round as Johnson.

Either way, it will be a great night for Michigan football. The Wolverines will have multiple first-round picks tonight and quite possibly a program record (four).
