Why Michigan football is 'excited' about incoming transfer wide receivers
Coming out of the spring game, Michigan football offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell talked about how the Wolverines needed to add some experience to the wide receiver room.
Michigan has talent. There's no doubt about that. Ron Bellamy, the wide receivers coach, even called Semaj Morgan a "baby Steve Smith." Morgan caught 22 passes last season. Tyler Morris caught a touchdown in the Rose Bowl and Fred Moore stood out in the spring game, as did Kendrick Bell, the younger brother of Ronnie Bell who played quarterback in high school.
Yet, the Wolverines added Amorion Walker, a former Wolverine who played cornerback for U-M last season. He was recruited as an athlete and transferred to Ole Miss in the winter before transferring back to Michigan after the spring.
He's a dynamic athlete and here's what Bellamy said on the "In the Trenches" Podcast (Via The Wolverine) about getting Walker back in the fold.
“Amorion Walker came back to the family, and he’s here. Obviously, I had him freshman year as a receiver. He moved to corner, and now he’s coming back as a receiver. He gives us the length and speed that, when we recruited him out of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, that’s what we were looking for — a 6-4 guy that can stretch the field. He’s another that can jump out of the gym. An extraordinary talent, and we’re excited about him."
Bellamy also said the Wolverines were "super excited" about CJ Charleston, who is coming from Youngstown State. He's only had one season of more than 500 yards receiving, but Bellamy said they watched him play Michigan State and Ohio State and liked what he brought to the table.
"He’s been in the Shoe, he’s played against Ohio State, he’s been in East Lansing, he’s played against the Spartans. So he’s played Big Ten competition, had success. You watch the game film, seeing him go in there. He’s a perfect fit for us. We’re super excited about him.”
