Michigan football announced that it was switching to Alex Orji as the starting quarterback, going away from Davis Warren.

You knew that was going to mean more emphasis on the run. Orji isn't a great thrower. He has two touchdown passes but neither was a long pass down the field -- more of a trick play.

Still, you knew Orji's presence would help activate the run game and that prediction proved to be accurate. The first two drives ended in punts for Michigan football, but you could see that the Wolverines were getting a push.

Finally, the damn broke. Kalel Mullings took a handoff up the middle and ripped off a 53-yard touchdown run that seemed to blow the roof off the Big House.

Michigan football fans have been dying to explode. They have wanted something to go crazy about and Mullings delivered. So did Donovan Edwards soon after.

Donovan Edwards with a touchdown run reminiscent of national championship game

Just like in the national championship game against Washington last season, Edwards was able to find a lane. Giovanni El-Hadi pulled across and got a great seal block. Marlin Klein had a really good block too and the rest was about the speed of Edwards who went 41 yards for a touchdown.

Edwards has struggled so far this season. He hasn't found rhythm but that changed against the Trojans, at least in the first half (Michigan leads 14-3 currently), and with him, sometimes it just takes one long run to get things going.

Mullings has been stellar too and it's clear, no matter who is playing quarterback that the offense needs to be centered around the running of Mullings and Edwards.
