While some of the top prospects in the 2024 NFL draft have declined to participate in some of the drills or show up altogether, former Michigan football quarterback J.J. McCarthy is taking a different route as he will throw and take part in other drills.

Some might say that McCarthy has more to prove and they would be right. Even though the Michigan football legend was 27-1 as a starter, and led the Wolverines to a national championship, there are still some questions, especially among casual fans, about his ability.

NFL teams aren't casuals though and they know what they would be getting in J.J. McCarthy. As far back as last summer, I was talking about McCarthy as a top-10 pick. Now, he's right in that range. CBS Sports projected him to the Vikings at No. 11 recently.

Yet, ESPN has McCarthy just a little bit lower, at least according to the new Mini NFL mock draft (top 12 picks) put out by Field Yates and Mel Kiper Jr.

The ESPN Mock Draft has the Michigan football quarterback projected to go 12th to the Denver Broncos which be a solid fit. The Broncos need a young quarterback and he would allow them to move on from Russel Wilson, just like McCarthy could allow the Vikings to move on from Kirk Cousins.

The Falcons, Seahawks, Jets, and Bears have all been connected to McCarthy, but mostly because they need quarterbacks. Imagine though if the Bears selected Marvin Harrison Jr. with the No. 1 overall pick and followed it up with McCarthy at No. 10?

That's what I would try to do if I was Chicago. Then again, like Jim Harbaugh, I might consider McCarthy at No. 1 because his best days are ahead of him.
