The Michigan football fanbase is restless

When Jack Tuttle entered the game on Sunday night, he became the third quarterback to take in game snaps for the Michigan Wolverines this season. When he entered the game, the Michigan football offense seemed reminiscent of a tortoise crossing a road. Slow and uninspired.

Alex Orji, who had provided a jolt in the offense after Davis Warren had struggled mildly in the first few games, had now met the same fate as Warren. Jack Tuttle even provided a spark after coming into the game, leading the team to a 17-14 lead at the end of the first half. Then Tuttle fumbled. Washington got points. Then Tuttle was intercepted on the next possession and Washington got more points. Those turnovers contributed to an eventual Michigan football loss.

What's next for Michigan football?

Now Michigan football finds itself at a deep crossroads. Having now seen three quarterbacks behind center, where do you go from here? Go back to Orji because he is mobile and was highly rated before the season started?

Go back to Warren because he originally won the starting job at the beginning of the season. Stay with Tuttle who has the most experience and can at least throw the ball down the field. Three choices. What is the solution?

A Michigan fanbase, fresh off a national championship, now finds itself in a situation similar to years before. Questioning if they stack up in the national landscape. Ohio State is still a juggernaut. Penn State is still consistent. Indiana is 6-0. Teams around the Wolverines are remaining consistent and competitive, and the Wolverines are standing in quicksand. The cause for alarm could be seen as exaggerated but the Michigan fanbase and alumni are just as passionate as any other.

No more example of that than last year when it was Michigan vs. Everybody. This is even the same fanbase that was ready to write off Harbaugh when he couldn't beat Ohio State. A lot of them had him fired after the 2020 season. So, the same fanbase will equally look around and wonder if they're headed in the right direction. Does anyone hear the Urban Meyer enthusiasts in the back?

Michigan football now has an open week before going to Illinois on October 19th. Wolverines fans, already restless, may get even more so in the weeks ahead. Maybe Sherrone Moore should turn off the notifications on his phone. Hide all the televisions in the athletic center. In fact, maybe he should just stay in his office for two weeks and not even open the door.

The alumni and the fanbase are already conversing about choosing between three quarterbacks with not much confidence in either one. The next target of fervor could be the head coach.
