Brandon Lane is a name that popped up this weekend as a potential Michigan football target in the transfer portal. It was reported by multiple outlets that Lane was going to visit the Wolverines. Pete Nakos of On3.com reported the visit as did 247 Sports.

However, Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider reported on Sunday that Lane wasn't a target for the Wolverines. There was talk of him visiting Ann Arbor but not on a recruiting visit.

It's kind of strange. But it's hard to see why Michigan football would have Lane on campus unless it had some interest in the Stephen F. Austin transfer. Lane is 6-foot-3, 300 pounds and had a bunch of power-4 interest when he first entered the portal after he had 46 tackles and 1.5 sacks last season

Lane was committed to Mchigan State. However, he re-opened his recruitment in early May. Since then, he visited North Carolina State and was expected to make trips to Michigan and Wisconsin.

It's been hard to get a read on what's happening and on Monday, Lane added another wrinkle posting on X that he is shutting down his recruitment. Lane said that he will be posting a commitment announcement soon.

I have no idea if Michigan football is still in the mix or not. He was supposed to visit on Sunday and now, he's talking about an announcement, so connect the dots if you will. Wisconsin was also in the mix and you never know how things work out in the portal. Things change quickly. But the Wolverines need depth and Lane is a name to watch.

At least we'll get some clarity one way or another soon.
