It's official. Jim Harbaugh has left the Michigan football program to be the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.

The move was reported by Adam Schefter. It's been confirmed by just about every major outlet at this point and Harbaugh is going to get a five-year deal from the Chargers.

Michigan football did everything it could to keep him. Michigan offered to make Harbaugh the highest-paid coach in college football. Essentially, the Wolverines met every demand he made.

But Jim Harbaugh can't win a Super Bowl with Michigan football. That's one thing the Wolverines couldn't offer and that proved to be the difference.

i've offered some thoughts on Harbaugh's departure. It was inevitable and frankly, I'm surprised that Harbaugh lasted as long as he did. The good news is that Michigan football already seems to have decided on its next head coach: Sherrone Moore.

Sherrone Moore is perfect fit for Michigan football

According to a report from Chris Balas of The Wolverine, Michigan football is expected to name Sherrone Moore as its next head coach following the job being posted for seven days, which is required by state law in Michigan.

This is a slam dunk in my opinion. I've been poundng the table for Moore, but more importantly, it seems that Moore is who Warde Manuel and Jim Harbaugh each want as the next head coach. Even though Harbaugh is leaving for the NFL, he wants Michigan football to succeed. He said tonight he will "always be a loyal Wolverine" and you can bet that he believes in Moore.

I sure do. I hope he's able to keep Ben Herbert. I don't expect Jesse Minter or Jay Harbaugh to return, but beyond that, if Moore keeps the rest of the staff, the Wolverines will be off to a strong start and as long as they can prevent a mass exodus in the portal, they should be very competitive in 2024.
