Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore has made another quality hire, landing a coach from the NFL to coach the secondary.

Sherrone Moore had a tall task when the entire Michigan football defensive staff left for the National Football League, but the Wolverines' new head coach made another addition on Wednesday in former Houston Texans safeties coach Stephen Adegoke according to Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports.

Adegoke has spent the last two seasons coaching in the NFL. He worked as a quality control assistant for the 49ers in the 2022 season, which was after he spent one year on the Michigan football staff in 2021 as a graduate assistant.

That's one reason why this is a sneaky good move for the Wolverines. Adegoke knows guys like Rod Moore, Will Johnson, and Makari Paige. That's going to be important in terms of keeping those players on the roster.

Beyond that, Adegoke is going to be a great fit because he's already familiar with the Michigan football defensive scheme. He worked under Mike Macdonald on the 2021 Wolverines staff and he's going to be a great recruiter.

College football players always respond to guys who come from the NFL. Adegoke is young and isn't that far removed from playing in the SEC for Mississippi State. He was a graduate assistant with the Florida Gators in 2019 and 2020.

So Sherrone Moore hired a fast riser in defensive coach circles who could eventually be a defensive coordinator. If Wink Martindale is only going to stick around for a season or two, which is likely the case in my eyes, Adegoke could eventually take over or at least be a candidate.

Adegoke is also going to help Michigan football next season. He's been outstanding in his short career as a defensive assistant and I'm excited to see his star rise in Ann Arbor.
