Michigan football linebackers 'will surprise people' says Sherrone Moore
Michigan football lost some legit dudes from the 2023 national championship team and two of them played at linebacker.
Junior Colson was drafted in the third round by the Chargers. Michael Barrett was drafted in the seventh round by the Panthers.
Anytime you have two NFL draft picks playing linebacker together, that's going to be hard to replicate. But the good news is that Michigan football has two future NFL linebackers set to start this season in Ernest Hausmann and Jaishawn Barham.
Barham transferred to Michigan football from Maryland. He had one interception last season and it was of a J.J. McCarthy pass. Barham is also a player who has been talked about constantly this spring by players and coaches.
During his two seasons with the Terps, Barham notched 95 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and that one interception. At Michigan, he'll start inside next to Hausmann, a former Nebraska transfer.
Last season, Hausmann was the third linebacker and was credited with 46 tackles for Michigan football. He also had two tackles for loss and was another standout during the spring.
Michigan doesn't add as many transfers as some other programs but when it does, it has been successful and Hausmann/Barhman are great examples. Barham could be an All-Big Ten performer and frankly, they both have that potential.
Sherrone Moore agreed and the U-M head coach said his starting linebackers are going to surprise some people this season.
"Those linebackers, Jaishawn [Barham] and Ernest [Hausmann], are two of the best in the country," Moore said to The Wolverine. "They're gonna surprise a lot of people."
