Following Week 1 against Fresno State, everyone has the same question: Can the offense do enough?

Fresno State wasn't a great showing for Michigan football, no doubt about it. But it's also important to give that performance some context. Fresno State is a very talented team. They're probably better than 5+ Big Ten teams. To win by 20, (even though the defense was mostly responsible for 14 of Michigan's 30 points) is nothing to scoff at.

What most Michigan football fans are concerned about boils down to one thing. The passing game. While Davis Warren didn't play great by any stretch, he didn't do terribly. For a guy who was starting the first game of his college career, he looked good. He was accurate most of the time, showed a willingness to throw the ball down the field and mostly made good decisions.

I mean, if a few plays turn out differently we're talking about an amazing performance by Warren. First, if Warren adds just an extra yard or two on his interception, it's a touchdown to Fredrick Moore. It was the right read and nearly a 50 yard touchdown. Next, if Tyler Morris doesn't slow down on his go route, Warren could've had another touchdown pass, this time from 50+ yards.

Davis Warren is THE guy

While the Wolverines are going to have plenty of sets for Alex Orji, Davis Warren is QB1 for the Michigan Wolverines in 2024, and he has the arm talent to take this team a long ways. It's important that the fanbase rallies around Warren and gives him confidence, as opposed to chanting for Alex Orji.

Let's also not forget that Michigan football purposely played a very vanilla game against Fresno State. They didn't show anything complicated. So while Michigan should have put up more offense in Week 1, the playcalling purposely wasn't doing them any favors. Expect to see much more variety and trickery going forward.

Michigan can beat every team on its schedule with Davis Warren at quarterback. And hopefully, that'll be put on display against Texas. If the staff says that Warren was lighting up Michigan's defense, he can surely do the same against Texas. Go blue!
