Michigan first played TCU in the College Football Playoff in the Fiesta Bowl. This game was going to send one of these two teams to the National Championship. Michigan came in as the 3-seed going up against 2-seed TCU.

The Wolverines were undefeated heading into this game, thier biggest wins that season being against No. 10 Penn State and No. 2 Ohio State. Their matchup against TCU was highly anticipated as the Horned Frogs were not projected to even have a winning season.

The game was an offensive explosion and came down to Michigan turning the ball over on downs with 27 seconds left in the game to seal it for the Horned Frogs.
