Michigan Football: 3 takeaways from the NFL draft
By Nick Popio
3. 13 Wolverines were drafted altogether
From J.J. McCarthy to Cornelius Johnson, a baker's dozen of Wolverines were taken over the three days in their backyard. They did not set the draft record that is still held by Georgia. They fell two short of tying the record. Some of the other eligible draftees have signed as undrafted free agents already, making the entire total of 18 Wolverines heading to the NFL.
Turning the page to next year Michigan football should have a pair of first-rounders on offense and possibly even more on defense. Will Johnson is arguably the highest-ranked Wolverine on most boards as it stands today. He'll cast a wealth of Charles Woodson comparisons by some experts once the time calls for it.
Now that spring practice is wrapped up and the draft is behind us the focus can shift to the transfer portal. Amorion Walker is expected to return after his brief stint in Mississippi. It doesn't appear that they'll search for a quarterback and are more comfortable than those who don't get the inside insight of being around that group day in and day out.
