Things can change quickly when it comes to college basketball rosters and Michigan basketball fans were reminded of that on Monday.

Long-time transfer portal target, Vlad Goldin, finally announced his commitment to the Wolverines. It's huge for Michigan basketball which adds a former All-Conference center from FAU. Adding the 7-foot-1 big man also meant that the Wolverines were at the scholarship limit.

The key word being were. They aren't anymore as George Washington III, who previously entered the transfer portal, has re-entered again, according to reports on Monday.

Washington III played sparingly last season for the Wolverines after signing with Michigan basketball out of high school as a four-star recruit from Ohio. It seemed like there could have been a role for Washington but that was before Dusty May added guards like Roddy Gayle, Justin Pippen, and Rubin Jones.

Niarmi Burnett still hasn't made a decision. Neither has Jace Howard, but Washington III won't be a Wolverine next season which gives Dusty May at least one scholarship to work with.

Looking at the roster, another guard or wing could certainly be used. If Burnett is back, that need is lessened. He was a solid defender last season and the 6-foot-4 guard shot 34.7 percent from 3-point range last season, making 1.6 per game.

Burnett was just lost on a bad team. He's not an elite scorer, but he's a quality role player. I'd love to see him back another with another wing. As far as Jace Howard, I have no issue if returns. Most teams aren't going to go 13 deep anyway and unless there is another freshman and he won't be an issue culture wise, I'm good with him on the team for one more season.

It feels like more clarity will be coming soon and maybe some new targets will emerge for May.
