Michigan AD Warde Wanuel on Juwan Howard: 'I have not really thought about changes'
There are five games left in the Michigan basketball season, but to be honest, most Wolverines fans would probably wish the season was already over.
That's a tough place to be in for a program that was one of the best in the sport just a few years ago. Even the start of the Juwan Howard era seemed promising. Michigan baskeball was headed to the NCAA tournament in 2020 before it was canceled. Then, they won the Big Ten title in 2021 and reached the Elite 8.
Michigan basketball also made the Sweet 16 the following season. But despite having two former first-round draft picks -- Jett Howard and Kobe Bufkin -- as well as Hunter Dickinson, the Wolverines weren't able to qualify for the NCAA tournament.
Then, after dealing with some health issues, the wheels have totally fallen off. Michigan is in last place in the Big Ten right now and there is no hope in sight. They have trailed by at least 30 points in each of the past three road games and it's hard to imagine Juwan Howard still being the head coach next season, although if you believe Michigan AD Warde Manuel, he hasn't even considered firing Howard.
"I have not really thought about any changes in our men's basketball program at this time," he said. "I want to support Juwan Howard."
Considering that the program has fallen off a cliff, Manuel might want to consider making some changes. Ohio State just fired its head coach Chris Holtmann and as much as I hate to say it, the Wolverines have to follow suit with Juwan Howard.
