J.J. McCarthy is out for the season and it's a huge bummer
Former Michigan football quarterback J.J. McCarthy, quite possibly the best college quarterback that the Wolverines have ever had, had surgery on Wednesday that will sideline him for the entire 2024 season according to Tom Pelissero.
For McCarthy, it's brutal news. The Michigan football quarterback was drafted 10th overall by the Vikings in the 2024 NFL draft and last Saturday, J.J. McCarthy looked like the future starting quarterback for Minnesota after tossing two touchdown passes against the Raiders.
McCarthy hit two deep shots down the field and for some reason, that's what rival fans have been saying McCarthy couldn't do, which is strange because he did it against their teams the past two seasons.
Michigan State fans watched McCarthy throw four touchdown passes last October against their defense and yet, they still think he sucks. So do the Ohio State fans who saw their team go 0-3 against Michigan football in games in which J.J. McCarthy played.
It would have been awesome to see McCarthy eventually win the starting job and take the NFL by storm. If he would have gotten a chance to start, I feel like he could have made a run at Rookie of the Year, just based on the Vikings offensive weapons and McCarthy's ability.
He would have been the missing piece. But there was also talk that Sam Darnold was going to remain the starter. Now, the Vikings don't have a choice and McCarthy will have to bounce back and aim to win the starting job in 2025.
For now, the former Michigan football QB will to wait another season to silence his critics.
