The level of pressure on Ryan Day entering the 2024 college football season is crazy. Day has lost three conference games during his Ohio State coaching career. The problem is that all three of those losses were to Michigan football and two of them were by double-digits.

Ohio State lost by six last season, without Jim Harbaugh on the sideline, but still never led and hasn't led Michigan football in the last 86 minutes of game action.

Ohio State fans can blame Connor Stalions all they want, but this rivalry has been one-sided the past three years because Michigan football was the better, more phyiscal team.

It's beat Michigan football or bust for Ryan Day

Beanie Wells, a former Ohio State running back who knows a thing or two about beating Michigan football and doing with physicality, said of the 2024 Buckeyes, "They have to beat Michigan if Ryan Day still wants to be at Ohio State."

Wells also talked about how it wasn't just about losing to Michigan football, but the way that the Buckeyes were dominated by the Wolverines, who won the last three games by an average of 14 points.

“When you look at the fact that they’ve lost three years in a row — not just losing those games,” Wellssaid. “It’s the way they lost those. Michigan out physicaled Ohio State. And for so many years, Ohio State prided themselves on being a physical, dominant football team. Now, when you get into a dogfight in a phone booth, it’s not happening. We didn’t see that from this Ryan Day football team. So, they certainly have to be better.”

Ohio State fans believe that the Buckeyes will destroy Michigan. They keep talking about a huge "drop off" and they better hope they are right because if Michigan goes into Columbus and wins again, Wells is correct that the Buckeyes will be looking for a new head coach.
