Gut reactions to yet another blown lead for Michigan basketball
Will Michigan basketball ever win a close game again? It feels like a fair question to ask.
Despite the Wolverines leading by a couple of possessions in the second half, you were just waiting for the collapse to come, just like when Michigan baskeball was up three with under 20 seconds left in overtime.
The problem is that Michigan basketball is incapable of doing the simple things. It can't make free throws or take care of the ball when it matters. It also can't get a rebound or a stop.
Michigan was up three but gave up an offensive rebound and a game-tying 3-pointer in overtime and from that moment, you knew the game was Florida's.
This team can't finish. It can't close and it won't be playing in the NCAA tournament. This program is in shambles and I have no idea what the answer is.
Gut reactions from another brutal loss for Michigan basketball
*I don't want Dug McDaniel to ever throw a lob pass again.
*Florida's offensive rebounding is the reason Michigan lost the game. The Wolverines were one rebound away from a win. That's the best way to sum up Michigan basketball right now -- always a rebound, free throw, or something else from a win.
*It's hard to see how this will change and if it doesn't, Juwan isn't going to survive very long. Blame NIL, the portal, whatever -- that's not an excuse for blowing close game after close game the past two seasons. At some point, there has to be accountability.
*Michigan could go 12-6 to close in the Big Ten and still not reach 20 wins or the tournament.
*This is the second overtime loss and the fourth loss by four points or less. Michigan basketball is 0-4 in those games. If the Wolverines go 2-2 -- they are right where they need to be.
This loss zapped the last bit of optimism I had about this team. There is zero reason to believe in this basketball team right now. We are 12 games in and they have shown zero sign of being able to play well for 40 minutes. At this point, you are who you are and this is a bad team.
