Dreams do come true, Michigan football fans. Your Wolverines are national champions following a 34-13 win over the Washington Huskies.

Michigan football set the tone in the first quarter with a pair of long touchdown runs by Donovan Edwards. He got things started. Blake Corum finished it.

The defense -- it was as elite as ever. Michael Penix Jr. is an incredible quarterback but he wasn't able to make plays down the field, while the Wolverines played their game. They pounded the rock, played incredible defense, and picked off college fooball's best quarterback twice in the second half.

J.J. McCarthy wasn't perfect. But when the game was on the line, he drilled a perfect pass to Colston Loveland. It led to a huge play and a few plays later, Blake Corum was in the end zone.

Nursing a 27-13 lead, the Michigan football defense needed one more stop and fittingly, it was Mike Sainristil who came up with it, intercepting a pass and returning to the Huskies 10-yard line. Corum tacked on a touchdown for the final dagger on a 15-0 season.

Here are the gut reactions.

Gut reactions from Michigan football national championship win

  • Jim Harbaugh got Michigan to the mountaintop. He did what Urban Meyer did at Ohio State and if he wants to go the NFL, he would end his Michigan career on top. He is the messiah for Michigan football.
  • Blake Corum is the greatest offensive player in Michigan football history. I'm not ready to put him over Charles Woodson but he's on the same level. The Wolverines are 32-0 when he scores a rushing touchdown.
  • BIG GAME DON!!!
  • I'm so happy for Donovan Edwards. He's a Michigan legend. His long touchdown runs against Ohio State and Washington will live on forever.
  • This was the best defense in Michigan football history. Holding Alabama and Washington to 33 points in the College Football Playoff cements their status.
  • You can still win a championship by playing great defense and running the damn ball. The way Michigan football won was a thing of beauty.
  • Jim Harbaugh is the greatest head coach in Michigan football history. This is the greatest TEAM in Michigan football history.
  • THE TEAM, THE TEAM, THE TEAM! These guys embraced that idea like few ever have and that's why they are hoisting the national championship trophy.
  • THANK YOU, TEAM 144! You reminded us that anything is possible and that love conquers all.
  • GO BLUE!
