Former Michigan football standout Braiden McGregor gets two sacks for Jets

The former Michigan football player is making a strong case for the New York Jets to keep him on their roster.

Honestly, it's still hard for me to believe that former Michigan football standout Braiden McGregor wasn't selected in the 2024 NFL draft.

I was also surprised that Jaylen Harrell lasted until the seventh round of the draft. Last week, he registered two sacks in a preseason game for the Titans, which will just about guarantee his spot on a 53-man NFL roster.

McGregor, another former EDGE for Michigan football who is listed by the Jets at 6-foot-6, 267 pounds, had two tackles and a quarterback pressure last week. With his ability to play on the EDGE -- with his hand down -- or standing up, McGregor could be a valuable piece, especially for a team like the Jets that likes to use various defensive fronts.

Pass rushers are valuable and McGregor is just scratching the surface. He really came on in 2023. I wish he would have stayed for another season to boost his stock, but on Saturday night, the former Michigan football standout registered two sacks for the Jets against the Giants.

That will boost his chances of making the 53-man roster. Even if the Jets cut him, they would be crazy not to put him on the practice squad. However, that allows other teams to claim him if they wish.

I'd expect that to happen after a two-sack performance, especially since he made a tackle for loss too, and had a pressure last week.

Sometimes, good players fall through the cracks and McGregor might be one of those guys. At the very least, he's done enough to stick around and get more opportunities.
