Former Michigan football player Andre Seldon Jr. passes away
Andre Seldon Jr., a former Michigan football player and a member of the Utah State football team died this past weekend according to a release from Utah State.
There was a report of an individual cliff diving who went into the water and never resurfaced. His body was found several hours later by authorities. Here is the release from the Cache County Sheriff's Office:
"At approximately 9:05 p.m. the Utah Department of Public Safety dive team located the young deceased male underwater in Porcupine Reservoir. The male was identified as a student-athlete at Utah State University. Any additional information may be released by Utah State University. Our initial investigation leads us to believe this is a tragic accident as multiple witnesses recount the same information. Our heartfelt condolences go to the family and friends of the student-athlete. Students who may be struggling with this event can reach out to the University for mental health services."
Seldon signed with Michigan football as part of the 2020 recruiting class. He was a top-100 cornerback coming out of high school but transferred away from the Wolverines after two seasons. Seldon landed at New Mexico State where he spent the past two seasons beore transferring to Utah State.
The 5-foot-9 defensive back played in two careers games for Michigan football but played in 28 games over the past two seasons for New Mexico State. He finished with 97 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, and 11 pass breakups.
Utah State released a statement saying the school is "devastated" about the passing of Seldon and offered its "deepest sympathies to all who loved Andre."
