Breaking down more Michigan basketball roster movement, transfer portal intel
Latest on Michigan basketball transfer targets
New Michigan basketball head coach Dusty May has been really active in the transfer portal. It's been hard to keep up with all of the guys the Wolverines are in contact with.
However, three names stand out to me as having significant buzz for Michigan basketball. One of those is Johnell Davis, who is one of the top-ranked players in the transfer portal. According to Pete Nakos of On3.com, it's down to Michigan basketball and Louisville.
The Cardinals have a bunch of NIL money, probably more than Michigan. We'll see what Dusty May can do on that front and the recruitment of Davis could be an early test for NIL under May. However, the vibes are good and insiders still expect Davis to follow May to Ann Arbor.
Another name to watch is Danny Wolf, the 7-foot transfer from Yale. He's an exciting player and averaged 14 points and nine rebounds last season. May did an in-home visit with him earlier this week and the Wolverines are the "team to beat" also according to Nakos.
Michigan basketball insider Davis Moseley also has predictions on his U-M recruiting board for Wolf to wind up as a Wolverine. He has projected Khani Rooths to Michigan too. However, on Thursday night he posted that May is expected to meet with Wisconsin transfer Connor Essegian this week.
Indiana and Michigan are the contenders for Essegian, who averaged 11 points per game as a freshman for Wisconsin before seeing his role reduced in 2023-24. He would be another great fit for May's system and if the new head coach adds Davis, Wolf, and Essegian, the Wolverines will be cooking with gas. Vlad Goldin is a very real possibility too.
