Another black eye for Michigan football off the field
For the second time in around a month, a Michigan football staffer has been arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
Greg Scruggs, the first defensive line coach hired by Sherrone Moore, was arrested for the same charge and eventually resigned from his position after more details came out. It wasn't a good situation and it should never have happened.
Denard Robinson is the latest. It hurts as a Michigan football fan. He's one of the most beloved players in the history of the program. There was a lot of darkness during the Rich Rod and Brady Hoke years, but "Shoelace" brought Wolverine fans a lot of joy.
That doesn't excuse what happened last night, when Robinson, according to the Detroit News, was arrested at 3:05 AM for OWI. The arrest was following a single-car accident.
Another black eye for Michigan football
This has to be frustrating for Sherrone Moore, the new Michigan football head coach, because like it or not, it reflects poorly on him and his leadership. It's baffling that an assistant coach would lose his job over this and still, another staffer commits the same grave mistake.
Losing a job isn't the worst thing that could happen either. Denard is lucky that he's safe and that nobody was injured during this. That's a real possibility and one these coaches, and all of us should consider when stepping behind the wheel.
People make mistakes. Denard Robinson isn't a bad person. But he needs to own up for his mistake and the Michigan football coaches need to start showing some discipline.
I don't want to see it happen, but even as an off-field staffer, it's hard to see how Robinson survives. It's a damn shame but actions have consequences.
