Alex Orji still leading Michigan football QB competition
College football teams have started to name their starting quarterbacks. Ohio State and USC have named their starters in the past few days but Michigan football isn't ready to do that just yet.
The Michigan football QB competition might extend into the regular season. It did in 2022 and the job really isn't won for good until someone shows they can get it done when it counts.
That's how J.J. McCarthy won the job in 2022. He earned it on the field. We don't know who Michigan football will start against Fresno State in the first game of the season. But as of right now, signs are pointing to Alex Orji.
Alex Orji feels like QB1 for Michigan football
There have been a few reports about fall camp and for the most part, Alex Orji is leading the QB competition has been the consensus. Davis Warren is the other name consistently mentioned as a contender for the job.
However, a new report from Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports seems to indicate that Orji is going to be the guy for Michigan football season.
Zenitz reported that Orji started with the first-string offense in both scrimmages for the Wolverines this fall. That doesn't necessarily mean he's going to start but it's a strong indicator. Zenitz also reported that Orji has taken a step forward as a passer, we well as impressing with his leadership.
Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore hasn't dropped any hints about when a starter will be named, but it's looking more and more likely that Alex Orji will start game one for Michigan football.
