There was a slight shakeup on the transfer portal board for Michigan football on Friday. The Wolverines were thought to be the leader for Indiana wide receiver Donaven McCulley.

McCulley is a 6-foot-5 wide receiver who could have been perfect for the vacated role by Cornelius Johnson who is out of eligibility.

However, it's now being reported that McCulley will withdraw from the transfer portal to stay with the Hoosiers which makes a lot of sense with the new offer to Wake Forest wide reciever Jahmal Banks

Banks is 6-foot-4, 208 pounds and has entered the transfer portal after four seasons with the Demon Deacons. In 2022, Banks caught 42 passes for 636 yards and nine touchdowns, as well as an average of 15.1 yards per reception.

During the 2023 season, Banks caught 59 passes for 653 yards. He also caught four touchdown passes and seems like a perfect fit for what the Wolverines need.

Michigan football is going to have some competition though. Banks has already taken visits to Notre Dame and Wisconsin. Each of those teams figures to be in the mix.

Banks also has some ties to Michigan football, or at least ties to some current Wolverines. The former three-star recruit was ranked 1,109 overall according the 247 Sports composite rankings out of St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland.

The Wolverines already have players on their roster from St. Frances in Blake Corum and Derrick Moore, so Banks would be a natural fit.

However, with all the uncertainty surrounding Jim Harbaugh and quarterback J.J. McCarthy who might be entering the NFL draft, it's hard to know how the Wolverines will fare in the transfer portal, at least on the offensive side of the ball.

Banks is a name to watch though. The next step for Michigan football will be getting him on campus.
