A new transfer portal cornerback Michigan football should target
It's no big secret that Michigan football needs help at cornerback after D.J. Waller left the Wolverines for Kentucky last week, after entering the transfer portal.
Michigan football is doing some work in the portal. Defensive tackle CJ West is coming for a visit. They also offered former Youngstown State wideout C.J. Charleston, and are trending as the favorite to bring back Amorion Walker to play wide receiver.
The Wolverines could still use another defensive back though. Jyaire Hill did play well this spring and the hope is that he's still on the roster May 1. We have one day of the transfer portal window to go. Ja'Den McBurrows did well too, but without Waller, there isn't enough depth. There wasn't enough before.
Michigan football needs another corner, maybe two
So Michigan likely needed a cornerback before Waller left. Now, the Wolverines might need two. One that could be a possible target is former Colorado/Florida State cornerback Omarion Cooper.
Cooper was recruited by Michigan coming out of high school before he chose Florida State and transferred to play under Deion Sanders. Cooper has played in 30 career games and has three interceptions to go along with nine pass breakups and 67 career tackles.
Cooper is 6-foot, 197 pounds. I don't think he would a lock to start for Michigan football, but would give the Wolverines another experienced cornerback. Remember, Rod Moore was expected to play some nickel before he suffered an injury this spring. That means Michigan is down two pieces in the secondary.
Zeke Berry seems ready to take on the nickel role. McBurrows does too, but Michigan would still be an injury or two from being in a tough spot. Cooper might not be in the cards, but the Wolverines need to add some bodies in the secondary before fall camp.
