Michigan basketball head coach Dusty May has done some impressive work on the recruiting trail, especially when it comes to landing players out of the transfer portal.

However, May added a pair of 2024 guards late. Justin Pippen was one and the other is Lorenzo Cason. Pippen was one of the fastest-rising prospects late in the 2024 recruiting class and the same could be said about Cason who was also getting interest from Florida at the end.

The 2025 class will provide some challenges for May because he's behind the 8-ball. However, he's working to overcome that and has Michigan basketball in the top three for elite 2025 point guard Darius Acuff.

Michigan basketball in the mix for a five-star point guard

Acuff is ranked No. 8 overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He's the No. 1 point guard and the 6-foot-3, 180-pounder from IMG Academy is also from Michigan originally.

According to Joe Tipton of On3.com, Acuff's top four has been narrowed down to three. UConn, the defending national champs are no longer a consideration. That leaves Michigan basketball, Kansas, and Arkansas.

Acuff also told Tipton that he plans to decide soon after the Peach Jam, a recruiting event this month. That's not great for Michigan because the idea was that Acuff would visit Ann Arbor. He did take one trip but that's when Juwan Howard was the head coach.

Acuff has visited Kansas and Arkansas which gives them a slight edge at this point. But Acuff did say that Michigan basketball "just felt like home" in his interview with Tipton, so you never know.
