Tyrone Wheatley

A former Michigan football legend who was once on Jim Harbaugh's staff as running backs coach could be a candiate to return and that's Tyrone Wheatley, the former Wolverines legend who won Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year back in 1992.

Wheatley is the head coach at Wayne State right now. He's been a head coach for two different college programs. Wayne State is a D-2 program and Wheatley has spent one season there after being the Denver Broncos running backs coach.

Talking about experience, it's hard to find someone with more than Wheatley. He's been a running backs coach in college for six seasons, while holding the same role in the NFL for five. The former Michigan football legend has talked about how coaching the Wolverines would be a dream come true and I feel like he would take the chance, even though he's a head coach right now.

Chip Kelly quit a Power-4 head coaching job to call plays for Ryan Day, so I don't think Wheatley leaving a D-2 head coaching job to be Michigan football running backs coach is crazy. I don't know if either side would be interested in a reunion -- but the Wolverines could do much worse.
