Striking a balance

Dusty May talked about wanting to invest in high school recruiting during his press conference and that's what he did at FAU. Vlad Goldin was one of the few transfer portal additions while he was the head coach at FAU.

With Michigan's roster situation, transfers are going to be required if this team is going to have any shot of being good or making the NCAA tournament next season. But it's smart to bring back a guy like George Washington III and add 2024 recruits such as Durral Brooks. Christian Anderson re-opened his recruitment, but May is also after other 2024 prospects.

You don't want to rebuild the entire roster every offseason. May didn't work that way at FAU. Last offseason, after a Final Four berth, he kept his roster together. That should give you a hint of his ability to make things work from an NIL perspective and a big part of the plan seems to be evaluating good players and developing them at Michigan. Transfers will be part of that, but high school recruiting is going to be essential and the commitment of Pippen is a good start.
