Although it will always be a team effort to repeat the success of 2023, Michigan football has three prominent players who will help define how the oncoming season will pan out.

2. Donovan Edwards

It's no secret that the running game will be the focal point of the offense again. The "Don" has had to wait his turn to be the number one on the depth chart, but he has also had his iconic moments in Michigan football history. Now we'll get to see what he can do with no Blake Corum and J.J. McCarthy around him. The offense is his to revolve around.

Can he break Corum's rushing touchdowns record or surpass Tim Biakabutuka's single season rushing crown? With his break away speed and the way running backs score touchdowns in this offense, it's not out of the realm of possibility. It took him half the season to score last year, but he could match his touchdown tally in week one alone this year.

What he does against the Texas defense will set the tone for the rest of the campaign. The Longhorns were dominant against the run in 2023, but lost there two hole pluggers up the middle to the NFL.

The 2024 running back room may be the most talented yet even without Mike Hart. Edwards should be in the Heisman discussion and have his most prolific season to date. The option rushing attack with him, another back and Alex Orji in the backfield at the same time could take time to gel with a revamped offensive line.
