3 Former Michigan football O-lineman sign for over $100 million in NFL free agency
It's been a great day for former Michigan football offensive lineman on the first day of NFL free agency. Even though contracts can't be officially signed until Wednesday, three former Wolverines agreed to lucrative contracts on Monday and none of them were first-round picks.
Michael Onwenu was a former sixth-round pick of the New England Patriots and he was expected to garner a huge deal on the open market. He was even serving as his own agent and it was reported that he re-signed with New England for three years, $57 million with $22 million guaranteed.
The former Michigan football standout and 2020 NFL draft selection has started 56 of 64 games in his career with starts at tackle and guard for the Patriots, who traded Mac Jones this week and were recently projected to draft J.J. McCarthy at No. 3 overall.
Another former Michigan football player, Graham Glasgow, a third-round pick of the Lions in 2016, signed a three-year $20 million contract with Detroit after starting 15 games last season. Glasgow is on his second stint with the team and the 31-year-old might end up retiring as a Lion. For now, he'll get to stick around for a potential Super Bowl run after the team squandered a 17-point lead in the second half against the 49ers in last season's NFC championship game.
Last but not least, former Michigan football offensive tackle Jon Runyan Jr. who has been playing guard for the Green Bay Packers, signed a three-year, $30 million deal with the Giants. His dad was a long-time Eagle, so that's interesting, but it's good to see Runyan cash in after a solid start to his career in Green Bay.
