Ohio State super team has already fallen short of 2023 Michigan football
It's hard to say which is worse: The way Ohio State plays in late games or the look of fake beard dye of Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day. Either way, the arch-rival of Michigan football fell flat on its face once again.
This season, the Buckeyes lost to No. 3 Oregon (on Saturday night) despite trailing by one point and having the ball at the Ducks' 28 with less than a minute to go. Instead of attempting a field goal, the clock ran out as Will Howard didn't slide and call a timeout in time.
Ohio State fans used to ridicule Jim Harbaugh for his performance against top-5 teams as Michigan football head coach but Day is the one who has a problem. The win in the 2020 College Football Playoff against Clemson remains the only win.
Ryan Day can't win the big game
Ryan Day is now 1-7 against top-5 teams. And his is the third straight game against an elite opponent that Ohio State could have won without some poor decisions from the head coach. People blamed Howard but Day should have known the clock was going to run after the penalty in the final minute.
It's also not shocking to see an Ohio State quarterback struggle in big moments. As great as C.J. Stroud was, he was nothing but an empty box score against the best teams he faced, which included a loss to Oregon back in 2021.
That's two straight losses to Oregon and three straight losses to Michigan football, which has the same 2-1 record in the Big Ten right now as the Buckeyes, who spent $20 million on their roster.
Ohio State should beat Michigan by two touchdowns. The Wolverines have plenty of their own problems, but it's funny that even in the best-case scenario, Ohio State has already fallen short of what the 2023 Michigan football team accomplished.
