Mike Boynton came to Michigan basketball with a reputation for being a strong recruiter. The former Oklahoma State head coach has only been in charge in Ann Arbor for a few weeks, but so far, it looks like that skill has translated.
The ink has barely dried on Boynton's contract and he already has Michigan in the mix for the multiple five-star recruits, in 2027 and 2028.
Cayden Daughtry, the No. 9 prospect in the 2027 class, the No. 1 point guard, is one of those players. It felt like Dusty May was closing in on a commitment before he took the job with the Dallas Mavericks. However, the Wolverines have kept on the full-court press thanks to Boynton.
The five-star point guard is on an official visit to Michigan basketball this week. According to Brice Marich, another five-star recruit will be in Ann Arbor soon, as in 2028 recruit, Dylan Betts, a 7-foot-3 center, has scheduled an unofficial visit to the Wolverines.

Mike Boynton trying to tap in Dusty May's 7-foot pipeline
May clearly had a thing for 7-footers. Aday Mara and Vlad Goldin were each over 7-foot in the past two seasons, while Moustapha Thiam, the starting center this season for Michigan basketball, is also 7-foot-2.
Playing for the IMG Academy, the 7-foot-3 Betts is ranked 13th overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Getting Betts on campus for a visit is an achievement, considering his offer list, which includes North Carolina, Kansas, Michigan, and Alabama. All of those teams have offered since June 16th.
UCLA, Illinois, Florida State, and USC also offered in June. Betts is just starting to see his recruitment take off; however, getting him on campus is a huge positive at this stage. He's a 2028 recruit so there is a long way to go.
Illinois is the early leader, according to the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine, which gives the Fighting Illini a 48-percent chance to land the 5-star's commitment. Illinois hosted him for a visit.
Michigan getting Betts on campus should make a huge difference. Boynton has coached multiple NBA players, and coached a Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, in addition to Cade Cunningham, who was the No. 1 overall pick.
Boynton also showcased his recruiting ability by keeping Michigan's roster together. We'll see if that bleeds into high school recruiting , where the Wolverines are seeking some elite talent.
