On Sunday, we got our first glimpse of the 2024-25 Michigan basketball team as the Michigan Wolverines played Oakland in an exhibition game.

The Michigan Wolverines cruised to a 92-48 win. Will Tschetter led the way for Michigan basketball with 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting. He was one of five players who reached double figures and all 10 scholarship players, who played minutes, scored.

Vlad Goldin was dominant down low as expected making 5-of-8 shots and scoring 11 points. Danny Wolf, who started at the four as expected, grabbed 12 rebounds in addition to 11 points.

Michigan basketball attempted 35 3-pointers in the win over Oakland. But, part of that is the zone defense that Oakland employs. Still, the Wolverines connected on 15 treys. Eight different players made a shot from beyond the arc. Four Michigan basketball players hit multiple times from deep.

We'll have more thoughts on this later on Monday, but it was a good first introduction for the Michigan Wolverines and their new head coach Dusty May. The win doesn't mean we need to change preseason expectations but U-M sure looked like the team we are expecting in 2024-25.

Michigan football drops out of AP Poll

This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone but Michigan football dropped out of the AP Poll for the first time since the 2020 season.

The Wolverines are 4-3 and could have one of the worst seasons for a defending national champion in recent memory. LSU struggled to six wins after winning the national title back in 2020. At this point, getting six wins would feel like an achievement.

Michigan State is up next and the Spartans just trucked Iowa. Indiana looks almost as good as Oregon and Ohio State, plus Northwestern won't be easy. Nothing will be easy for this Michigan football team right now, which can't seem to get out of its own way.

Michigan football commitment will visit Penn State, others

The Michigan Wolverines are trying to hold onto the commitment of top-100 tight end Andrew Olesh in the 2025 class. Alabama has been pushing, along with Oregon, and according to Brian Dohn of 247 Sports, Penn State is a threat too.

The Nittany Lions are expected to host Olesh, who is from Pennslyvania for the Ohio State game. His father played for Penn State and with the state of the Michigan football program, it wouldn't be shocking if the Nittany Lions or Oregon was able to flip him.

Olesh said he was "impressed with Bama" during the Alabama-Georgia game. Oregon could also host Olesh for the Illinois game this week or maybe the Washignton game at the end of November.

Regardless, it's clear Michigan football has work to do in order to keep one of its top 2025 commitments.
