Michigan Wolverines news: Sherrone Moore comments on QB recruiting, plus more
Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore can't talk directly about recruits but he was asked about the 2025 recruiting class on Monday.
The question was whether Moore was concerned that Michigan football didn't have a 2025 quarterback commitment following the decommitment of Carter Smith.
Smith's decommitment though was certainly connected to the Michigan Wolverines pursuit of five-star QB Bryce Underwood, who is from the state of Michigan but is committed to LSU and has been since last January.
Yet, Michigan football is back in the mix. Moore didn't offer any specifics, just smiled and said, "We'll be fine."
Some might take that to mean that Michigan football is in a good spot with Underwood. It's hard to know at this point but I have said that the Wolverines have their work cut out for them. NIL money is one thing but Michigan has to sell Underwood on the offense and development too.
But it's good to see the Michigan Wolverines being aggressive on the recruiting trail and if they miss on Underwood, I expect them to push for another quarterback or try to get Smith back in the fold.
Michigan Wolverines dominate in Dusty May's debut
Michigan basketball coach Dusty May promised a fun team to watch and he delivered on Monday night as the Michigan Wolverines beat Cleveland State in their opener 101-53.
Michigan was incredibly efficient on the offensive end, while being just as good on defense. Danny Wolf led the way with 19 points and 12 rebounds, but six guys scored in double figures.
U-M will face a more difficult test on Sunday against Wake Forest, but so far, Dusty May is living up to the hype.
Michigan women's basketball battles South Carolina
The Michigan women's basketball team was also in action on Monday night against No. 1 South Carolina with three freshmen starters.
Yet, two of those starters were McDonald's All-Americans Syla Swords and Olivia Olson. Olson only managed five points on 2-of-12 shooting but Swords was spectacular scoring 27 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, and dishing out two assists in a 68-62 loss.
Michigan women's basketball led by one point at half and were competitive throughout the game. Swords even hit a stepback 3-pointer with under a minute left to get U-M within a point, yet the Gamecocks, the defending national champs, sealed the win in the final minute.
Still, it was a positive sign for the Michigan Wolverines and Swords looks like a star.
