More Michigan football players have entered the transfer portal, plus Ohio State fans are angry about the commitment of Chase Herbstreit.

It doesn't take much for Ohio State fans to get riled up. On Sunday, the same day the Buckeyes were selected for the College Football Playoff, a bunch of fans were complaining about the commitment of Chase Herbstreit, the son of Kirk Herbstreit, a former Buckeye QB and ESPN analyst, to Michigan football.

Herbstreit announced his commitment on social media on Sunday. He's a zero star recruit according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He's a three-star recruit according to On3's rankings for the 2025 class and walk-ons aren't really a thing anymore, so he's probably getting a scholarship.

Nobody can say for sure. Ohio State fans think it's trolling and they are angry (some anyway). The truth is that Michigan football is going to need some arms. Bryce Underwood just signed and Jadyn Davis was added in the 2024 class, but there will probably be some transfer departures from the QB room.

Those started on Sunday night, as former three-star QB recruit Jayden Denegal, part of the 2022 class, announced he was entering the transfer portal. He was a take in the same class as Alex Orji and never contended for playing time.

You still need backup quarterbacks though. You can't have Bryce Underwood and his backup throwing every pass or running the scout team. It's a smart move in that sense and a chance for Herbstreit to get on a major roster with time to learn and develop.

Andrew Gentry enters transfer portal

Andrew Gentry was expected to win the starting right tackle job this season for Michigan football but it didn't work out that way. Gentry did start two games for the Wolverines, and got some work as an extra offensive lineman, but overall, his season was a disappointment.

The former four-star recruit who was ranked in the top 100 overall when he signed with BYU out of college, eventually joined Michigan football after a Mormon Mission.

There was hope Gentry could develop into a starter but he will look to do that elsewhere as Chris Hummer of 247 Sports reported that he's entered the transfer portal.

Gentry won't be the last. Far from it (Linebacker Micah Pollard has entered the portal too).

In a last bit of news, the Michigan Wolverines were selected for the Reliaquest Bowl against Alabama. It's a Rose Bowl rematch for last season and the fifth time since 1996 that the two programs will meet in a bowl game.
