It was another recruiting miss for the Michigan football program on Saturday as top-100 running back Javian Osborne committed to Notre Dame over the Wolverines.

Osborne was a Michigan football lean at one point. He did have a crystal ball projection for the Wolverines. Osborne canceled a visit to Texas a few months ago, and all signs pointed to Michigan football being the favorite to land his commitment.

Yet, the 5-foot-10, 200-pound running back out of Forney, Texas, who is ranked 90th overall in the 2026 class, sided with the Fighting Irish. Michigan football has some other running back targets on the board, led by Savion Hiter, but it's clear that the Wolverines need to adjust their recruiting strategy.

If the Wolverines continue with this wait-and-see approach to NIL, this will keep happening. Michigan struggled in 2023 and 2024 when it didn't want to play the NIL game. Now, the Wolverines are holding off because of the House settlement, and we have a recruiting fall-off because of it.

The Wolverines didn't even give themselves a chance with No. 1 recruit Jackson Cantwell, and they didn't with Osorne either. The 2026 class could have been a juggernaut, but now the Wolverines are digging a hole they expect to dig out of later in the class.

But maybe don't fall behind in the first place, especially when it's your own doing.

Michigan Wolverines notch historic win over Ohio State

The Michigan baseball team beat Ohio State 23-1 on Saturday in Columbus, thanks to a 16-run fourth inning. The 22-run victory was the largest by the Michigan Wolverines in the series and improved Michigan to 28-17 on the season, as well as 13-10 in the Big Ten.

Every Michigan baseball player reached base and scored a run in the game. Kurt Barr was stellar on the mound, pitching five scoreless innings to get the win. Robert Hamchuk capped the 16-run inning with a home run.

The Wolverines finished with 13 hits but also took advantage of Ohio State errors and pitching woes. Cole Caruso was one of six Wolverines to have an extra-base hit. He finished with three hits, four RBI and scored twice.

Michigan baseball is on the NCAA tournament bubble and will play two games against Ohio State on Sunday in a doubleheader. A split and another series win would be huge.

Michigan women's tennis advances to Sweet 16

The men's tennis team was knocked out of the NCAA tournament earlier this week, but after beating Youngstown State in the opening round, the Michigan Wolverines advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament with a 4-0 win over Arizona State on Saturday.

The Wolverines got wins in singles from Julia Fliegner, Lily Jones, and Reese Miller. Michigan also got wins in doubles from Fliegner/Miller, as well as Piper Charney/Emily Sartz-Lunde, to cinch the doubles point, giving Michigan the 4-0 win.

The Wolverines will play Texas on Saturday, May 10th in the Sweet 16 at 1 p.m. EST.
