Michigan football has been waiting on official word from a few veteran players on whether or not they will return to the Michigan Wolverines for the 2025 season.
Some of these names include Rayshaun Benny and Jaishawn Barham. They are leaning towards returning but Benny dominated in the ReliaQuest Bowl and Barham has a bright NFL future.
It remains to be seen if those guys return. However, one key Michigan football veteran announced his return for the 2025 season and that's fullback/tight end Max Bredeson.
Flat out, Bredeson is a warrior. He's the heart and soul of this Michigan football team and his return for the 2025 season is huge. Not only is he probably the best blocking fullback in college football, he's a team captain and a huge part of the championship culture Michigan has built.
That culture was on full display over the final three games of the season and Bredeson was a huge part of that. He has played in every game the past three seasons for the Michigan Wolverines and has been instrumental in the running game being so effective. He's also got 10 receptions for 121 yards in three seasons.
Michigan Wolverines make top 10 for elite 2026 running back
Javian Osborne is one of the top targets for Michigan football in the 2026 class. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound running back from Forney, Texas, is ranked 67th overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Texas is the crystal ball leader right now, but the Michigan Wolverines made the cut for his top 10 on Wednesday along with Texas, Alabama, Notre Dame, Georgia, Texas A&M, SMU, Oregon, Florida State and Tennessee.
My guess is that Michigan football is closer to the top of the list than the bottom. Tony Alford has been working on Osborne for a while and this is a recruitment to monitor going forward.
Michigan women's basketball falls to Ohio State
The Michigan Wolverines had to play a third consecutive top-10 team on Wednesday night as the Ohio State Buckeyes came to Ann Arbor and beat U-M 84-77 in a top-25 matchup.
The 25th-ranked Wolverines stormed out of the gates and built a 13-point lead at halftime, but No. 9 Ohio State owned the second half, outscoring the Wolverines 53-33 on its way to a seven-point win.
Olivia Olson led Michigan women's basketball with 20 points, while Syla Swords tacked on 14. Jordan Hobbs also finished with 13 for the 10-5 Wolverines, who are 1-3 in Big Ten play. Purdue is up next on Saturday at 2 PM EST.
